The Truth About Likes and Visits

The sun always returns after the storm

Hello world. I have a confession to make: lately I have been a terrible member of the WordPress community. I have not gone to check out other people’s work in more than a month now. Between starting a new job, moving to a new place, and trying to post regularly (“just keep writing… just keep writing…” as Dory would say), it has been difficult for me to find time for that part of the blogging experience.

Thinking about this predicament has made me realize a few things. In our media-heavy world, it is soooo difficult to grab someone’s attention! So difficult that it almost becomes impossible. Take me, for example. I come home after work (already half brain-dead) and try to spend the rest of the night productively. Which means (still) unpacking, paying bills, cooking, eating, exercise (if I’m lucky), other chores… The list goes on. When I inevitably get online, there is always an interesting article on NPR or BBC that eats up the time… And let’s not forget about Facebook!

What does all of this rambling mean? For me, it means that the audience I do get (which has become considerably smaller since I fell behind my regular blog reading), is very, very precious. I realize that this struggle for attention happens in everyone else’s life too. And I want to thank you, my readers and visitors, for not giving up on me (just yet).

For I will come out of this warp and become a contributing member once again. After all, one-way streets only carry you so far.

  1. What? We’re not your first priority?

Of course, no worries Yulia. I/we enjoy your posts immensely, regardless of whether you keep up with mine (although it certainly seems like you have been). So, as long as you don’t stop writing and taking pictures…

I completely understand about NPR and BBC, by the way.

  2. Hey! Come on, don’t worry… I too haven’t blogged for nearly a month and am back again.. New place and new things to do take up a lot of time… Settle down, then enjoy blogging… it’s not a test to get daily visitor counts… it’s ur hobby which I admire and will always be here for u :-)

  3. Oh , Don’t worry , Yulia. Blogging is only a part of life. Blogging is NOT life . Relax ! Enjoy life ! And , of course , then , enjoy blogging as well .We are with you !

  4. I think we all at various times have had to not be a good member of the blog sphere. I just have been through a similar period as you, and I am now trying to catch up. So just relax, and know that none of us are gone. And get back to us, when time is right. Stay healthy!
