India… Where do I begin… Is it possible to fall in love with a country? Is it possible to feel a deep connection to a place? Anything is possible in India! It is a country of contrasts, beauty, colorful gods and people… India bursts with life, and you cannot help it but join in the rush!
Delhi greets us with dense fog and intense smell of the smoke… Early morning grants the rare view of the empty streets – they will be bursting at their seams later…
The fog does not end in the countryside, but it becomes purer and milkier…
Time to stop for a morning chai at a roadside haveli… Chai is the universal drink in India; I am quite convinced that it runs in everyone’s blood…
Simple combo of metal and wood…
Delicious breakfast with puri (an airy wheat bread), aloo (zesty potato stew), halwa and chai…
The streets are awakening with the quietly rising sun…
Incense-filled air…
New Jain temple construction on our way to Kurukshetra…
Buffalo – bike stare down… Buffalo wins!
Chaos on the roads… Cars, trucks, wheel carts, rickshas and holy cows… Are we going to make it alive?
Car honks playing popular Bollywood songs…
A common sight on the roads – overcapacity
Misty morning in a peaceful village near Kurukshetra… Breakfast with saag (spinach stew) and buffalo butter…
Orderly village streets, cow dung mounds everywhere…
Two pots and a hole
View from the roof veranda (which is common in many houses and is a perfect spot to enjoy the views and the sunshine)…
Traditional oven that is fueled by cow dungs. People tell me that food prepared this way tastes much better than any on gas or electric.
Local shop where you get not only groceries, but also the daily dose of rumors
Sadhus (the holy men) enjoying their worry free day… It’s hard to know if these two are real sadhus, or simply beggars that do it for the money.
The joy of doing nothing in particular
The thought that often came to my mind when I looked around: “When do people actually work?”
In all seriousness, there are a lot of people just… hanging out.
Trash and all kind of junk is another reality of life
Crosswalks are purely hypothetical…
Holy cow-a! I am in India!
Next stop: Goa…
